Elizabeth Wrobel

We packed up boxes full of all our stuff, 
Oh, boy! I didn’t know we had so much. 
Checking each room one last time,
Making sure we didn’t leave anything behind. 
In an empty bedroom at the end of the hall, 
I left a letter taped to the wall,
 For whoever buys the house, so they will see, 
So they will know, just a little bit about me. 

Dear Friend, If you are reading this, you live in the room at the end of the hall, 
The one with the pretty flowers on the wall.
 The dresser stood to the left of the door, 
Little things only I could see were hidden in the bottom drawer. 
A vase full of daisies sat on top, waving me in, saying hello,
 Above it was a calendar to tell me if there was some place I needed to go.
 My bed lay beneath the windowsill,
 Look outside, you'll see a hill, 
The one I used to sled down when the first snow fell,
 I should have been doing my homework, but, oh well. 
My desk sat in the corner to the right, 
That's where I sit writing this letter tonight, 
The closet now stands bare, 
I used to have all the latest fashions hanging in there. 
Shoes in ever color, all kinds from sneakers to sandals, 
Handbags I placed on the top shelf, though I did hang the ones with handles.

I hope with this letter, 
You will feel at home a little better, 
Because you see, I took all my belongings with me,
 My clothes, my desk, and my memories too, 
Leaving enough room for clothes, belongings, and memories made by you. 
Sincerely, Previous occupant of the room at the end of the hall.
 I turn one last time to see the room at the end of the hall, I wipe my eyes as my tears start to fall. 
Even though I'm leaving to make a new start, 
The memories of good times here will remain in my heart.
